Pets treated with Advantage® pose NO hazard to young children or infants. Advantage acts selectively on the nervous system of specific insect species, such as the flea. It does not act on the nervous system of mammals, such as dogs, cats or humans.
Extensive and properly conducted toxicology and safety
studies have been performed on the active ingredient,
imidacloprid. These studies demonstrate that imidacloprid
is very safe and that there is no significant exposure
to humans that handle or pet animals after treatment.

Even at elevated doses, there is no significant exposure
to people from petting a cat or dog that has been treated
with Advantage. So it is gentle enough
to use in households with small children.
Advantage poses NO health risk to pregnant women. Studies prove that imidacloprid does not cause any adverse effects on the developing fetus (no teratogenic, mutagenic or genotoxic effects). It is safe for pregnant women to apply Advantage to their pets and to handle and pet an Advantage-treated animal.
In fact, studies prove that using 20-24 times the label
dosage on cats and dogs does not cause any internal
or external side effects.
