Advantage® quickly distributes over the entire body surface of the pet, from the top of the head to the tip of the tail! Within 12 hours of application, Advantage has dried and locked onto the cells on the surface of your pet's skin. This means that the flea can land anywhere on an Advantage-treated pet, and it will still contact enough Advantage to be killed.
Advantage is always present on the
skin of treated pet.
Advantage stays on the surface of the
pet's skin for four weeks and does not travel systemically
in your pet (through its bloodstream or into internal
organs). Skin cells go through a natural monthly shed,
with old skin cells replaced by new ones. This is why
monthly reapplication is necessary.
Advantage spreads over your pet without
getting into the bloodstream.
Advantage is lipid or fat soluble, which means that it spreads quickly and is locked onto the oil on the surface of every skin cell. Each skin cell has a lipid or fatty membrane that attracts the lipid soluble Advantage to it. Because Advantage stays on the skin and does not enter the bloodstream, it kills fleas on contact. Fleas do not have to bite the pet or suck blood in order to be killed.
Plus, Advantage is non-systemic and has
no cumulative effect, meaning the ingredients will not
build up in your pet's body.
How often should Advantage be used?
Use Advantage every month, ideally on
the same day of each month. Start as soon as the weather
becomes warm depending on your area (April) and continue
monthly until well after the first frost (November).
Advantage can be used year round.
Advantage can be applied every month all
year round, especially in heavy and constant flea infestation
areas of the country.
It's most effective to start using Advantage
several weeks prior to the start of flea season (April
in most parts of the country) and to continue applying
a tube each month until the flea season is over. Advantage
is an excellent flea preventative and should be used early
in the spring to stop fleas from before they become a
problem.
Advantage never expires.
Advantage is heat and light stable. It
does not have an expiry date and its efficacy is not affected
over time.
